Highflying helix and dirt spewing Monster trucks may be the darling of the radio controlled (RC) world, but they have nothing on the sleek, graceful world of Radio Controlled Boats! Weather sailing across the water or evoking fleeces of water in the wake left behind as they shoot from shore, the RC boats gives hours of outside entertainment and amusement. Controling a radio controlled boat is similar to other radio controlled vehicles in using a hand held controller that passes on with an aboard receiver for aligning steering and acceleration.

RC boats are a best selling branch of the RC toy range. They are produced in a wide variety of shapes and sizes varying from small and steady cruisers to lighting fast racers and their popularity soar from there. The conception of a toy boat is not precisely new. After all, toy boats have been around as long as the rubber ducks and teddy bear.

Getting Started with Radio Controlled Boats

Radio controlled models appeal to the kid in all of us, though serious hobbyists will make a distinction between hobby quality models and the toys of their youth. If you live near a lake or river, then radio-controlled boats provide a fun way to hit the water. You can race them competitively or just sail them for recreation.

The captivation with RC boats is not only in their lightness on the water, but also they’re complex gathering process.

Generally, RC boats come in three difference models, builder’s kit, ARR boat kits and RTR boat kits.

Broadly specking link anchor text fall into three types link anchor text., which are the cheapest, although slower and become slower as the battery power depletes.

Gas powerboats run on regular auto gas and do reach speeds up to 45 mph. They are the most expensive type of remote controlled boat’s, but can run up to 45 minutes on a single tank of gas. You can choose from variety sizes, though do remember Gas controlled remote boats have complete engines that can turn on the speed factor, thus meaning that the engines are larger because of having to accommodate both oil and gas tanks. These boats are also larger in size, some up to five feet in length. Gas powered boats are heavier in the water though at the same time you they have improved designs that enable them to handle rough water conditions better. Because of it’s bigger size and heavier body you need to ensure using your boat on bigger bodies of water. But they are cheaper to run than nitro.

In the middle you will find nitro boats. These run on a blend of alcohol and oil especially designed for sport vehicles. The boat models themselves are cheaper to buy then gas boats, but the cost of the fuel is more expensive so they prove to be a false economy. They are also very noisy which means they may be banned from some bodys of water. However, they are easy to operate, run on full power throughout the lifetime of a tank of fuel.

What’s needed to run a Remote Controlled Boat?

Remote Controlled boats mostly come as a complete kit. Included in the kits would be the batteries, fuel and battery charger. Additional fuel and batteries would be needed over the life of the boat. Some nitro boats require a started kit. This is usually supplied with the boat, but not always. If you are purchasing your first link anchor text you may wish to choose one that comes ready to run straight out of the box

Why Stamp Collecting Is A Hobby For All Generations

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

When we were children we didn't have computer games and a lot of us would collect stamps. When I remember my own stamp collection as a child I think of happy hours sorting through piles of od stamps. I still have my books of stamps and some of my friends have built up large stamp collections. Some kids chose to collect dolls or make model airplanes but the enthusiasm fades as you get older and the years pass. As we grow older our enthusiasm for childhood hobbies changes and we move on.

There seems to be only one hobby that is ageless and can be carried on as a child or an adult throughout your life. I find collecting postage stamps a fascinating hobby that I can spend time on when I have a little time to spare.

Most young children love pictures and postage stamps are decorated with colorful and beautiful pictures of people, animals, flowers and events from all around the world. The different countries will all change the style and look of their stamps every year or two. If you study a stamp with a magifying lens you ill see the great detail the pictures contain and the skill of the artist who produced it. So stamp collecting for kids can give great lessons to the budding artist in how to compose and image and display it even when it is tiny.

Children will spend hours studying the details of stamps if you give them a small pile to sort through. People organize and catalog their collections in different ways but they need to be in some order when they are collected in stamp albums. The collection of postage stamps provides a great rainy day activity and opportunities for trading stamps with other kids.

Your children will find that not only is stamp collecting an enjoyable hobby. Learning about other countries through their stamps will help learn more about the geography of the world and other cultures and languages. We can learn something of the country from the stamps that it issues. Who is the person on the stamp and what language is printed on that stamp?

You can start your kids out with a pack or two of mixed stamps and a book in which to store them. Since this is a hobby for any age group they might still be collecting stamps in their old age. Owning stamps from around the world encourages children to learn about the places those stamps came from. Collecting anything helps you learn about organizing things but postage stamps also educate about countries and languages.

As your kids get older, they will probably become more selective about the stamps they want to collect. The next step might be to aquire stamps from catalogues so they will need to save money if they want to add to their collection. You will discover stamp catalogs appearing in the mailbox. Thanks to this enthusiasm for collecting stamps and anything to do with stamps they will want to browse stamp websites for more information.

The great thing about this  hobby is that it can be just as entertaining for older people. Stamp collecting is a hobby that can be enjoyed as a child, gives relaxation as an adult and keeps the mind active in older age. All generations enjoy collecting postage stamps as it is a stimulating and rewarding hobby. A selection of stamps and a stamp book will set a child up for a hobby that might last them their whole life.

Expressing your thoughts through the guitar

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

I have been playing the guitar for a number of years now and I have found learning to play the guitar has been one of the best things that I have ever done.

Being brought up in a culture where men where not encouraged to show or express their feelings was challenging, and as I grew older I found that I needed a way to channel my feelings. So as a late teen I decided to learn the guitar.

When I first started my finger would ache and I would keep breaking strings from strumming too hard, but none the less I eventually mastered my 1st Nirvana song.

After moving through the Smashing Pumpkins phrases I began to start trying to write my on songs and surprisingly I was able to come up with a few original sounds and composed my very on songs.

The best part about learning the guitar for me was thart I was able to express what I felt by translating this through my guitar. And in a world that continually sends you messages that you need to look like Brad Pitt and be as cool as John Wayne, it can be confusing. However I found the true me when I would get lost in my guitar.

I first started taking guitar lessons in New York and when moved to Australia I mucked around for a while and eventually started taking guitar lessons in Sydney where I live today.

The biggest challenge I faced with becoming a confident guitar player was that I struggled to be consistent with my lessons. Moving around a lot as a child and teenages with my family played a role in this. However then I discovered learning the guitar online and a whole new world opened up to me. The great thing about learning the guitar online is that you can take lessons when and where you like and the best part is that you only pay once!

I encourgae anyone play an instrument and also to consider online courses as they work and save you a lot of cash!

Collecting Model Car Kits

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

There are almost as many hobbies around the world as there are people. Some are more popular than others. Many people like to collect things like books, baseball cards, bobble heads, or model trains. One very popular collector’s item is die cast cars.

Die cast cars allow you the pleasure of both building it and displaying it. There are some who make money from their hobby by building a die cast car and then selling it to other collectors. People who enjoy collecting die cast cars also have a great time going to model car shows. These shows gives them a chance to see new models and kits they can purchase. Creating die cast cars is an intricate process that uses both plastic and metal.

You can find die cast scale models for all sorts of vehicles including fire trucks, airplanes, buses, motorcycles, and police cars. Scale model police cars come preassembled and as kits that need to be put together. There are many who really enjoy the labor of love involved in assembling a kit. Not only do you get to build the scale model police car but you can paint it as well. There has remained a real fan base for die cast toys since their introduction in the 1940s.

The most popular die cast cars you can find these days are made by Matchbox. They make some of the smallest scale model cars that you can find. More and more toy companies have tried to enter the die cast car business as they grew in popularity. The first Hot Wheels where made by Mattel back in 1968. There are also several companies that pay toy manufacturers to put their logos on die cast scale models as a marketing strategy. The makers of die cast scale model cars also make tons of accessories to compliment their vehicles. Included in these extras are filling stations, carrying cases, and race tracks.

Nitro Helicopter: Still My Choice For Now…

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Nitro Helicopters are fast becoming the “boy’s toy” of choice for, well, of course…grown men.

RC helicopters have been a popular option for the hobbyist for a long time. But these “toys” have come a long way in a short time offering no shortage of challenge and thrill. Boredom is not an option.

Hobbyists are arguably first drawn to RC Helicopters because they want the thrill of flight without the challenges of flying a plane; such as finding the right space for take off and landing and the risks of losing your craft from range.

Beginners get enough skill in a short time to really start enjoying helicopters early on. With a shortened learning curve the thrills start pouring in rapidly, cutting short the phase of frustration one endures whilst learning.

The nitro helicopter is the Holy Grail (in my humble opinion) of the RC hobbyist – but I am biased of course. A nitro powered helicopter can be described as a small version of the real thing. It gives the flyer a visceral feeling as they sense the power and agility behind its gas powered engineering.

New buyers always grapple witht he decision between a electric rc helicopter or a nitro helicopter. Firstly you should visit your local hobby store where they are always welcoming and happy to provide plenty of information and advice.

Before taking flight all new hobbyists should train with a flight simulator. Obviously this will give you a good taste of things to come and general feel for the craft so you don’t dump it in the lake or in a tree on your first day. Safety first they say.

I've seen a million times; you will fall into this head first before you know it. This may sound like a stretch, but all hobbies have the ability to give you that escape that soothes the soul.

OK..so let’s get back to the big choice between electric and nitro…here’s my view:

Electric is a great option for the novice, here are its advantages;

•    Cheaper to get started
•    Low maintenance
•    They are quieter (won’t trouble your neighbors!)
•    Environmentally friendly
•    No ongoing gas costs
•    Typically easier to operate

Disadvantages of the electric RC helicopter:

•    Shorter flying times

•    Crashes can cause battery to break which can be expensive
•    Battery needs to charge between flights

All in all, electric RC helicopters are a great way to start out in the hobby.

The nitro helicopter tends to be a more popular choice for the experienced or more serious RC helicopter fan. Nitro helicopters can be quickly addictive.

In essence, nitro helicopters resemble the real thing a lot more than their electric counterparts. The big thrill comes from the sound and feel of the gas propelled engine. The smell also adds to the realism.

Also adding to the realism is the engine design and mechanics. More akin to a “real” engine the “tinkerer” in you gets the chance to play with tuning and optimizing the engine. Conversely, this adds to the maintenance, requiring cleaning after each session as well as more risk of engine troubles. So…this is either a turn on or a put off, depending on the individual.

You get what you pay for they say and the nitro helicopter is going to cost you money. Gas will cost you around $1500 yearly.

Advantages of the nitro helicopter:

•    More realistic: smells and sounds
•    Short beaks between flights
•    Less damage usually incurred during a crash
•    More flight time

Disadvantages (depending on how you look at it)

•    Gas costs
•    Power up time can be longer •    More fiddly

Lastly, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to the choice between electric and nitro helicopter. Find what’ best for your budget and just get stuck in. Your preference will become clear with alittel experience. Also, electric technology has come along in leaps and bounds and there are many models now which will outperform the nitro ones; but I believe they are still too expensive.
