For example, at a recent flea market, a person found an original copy of the Declaration of Independence in a desk. What some people think is junk may actually be a very expensive piece of history. People from all over the world collect things and finding them in today’s world has become easier than ever.
The easiest place that a person can go to in order to find great antiques and collectibles, besides their attic, is Ebay. However, for those who take the time and effort to complete a collection, the work is rewarding and fun beyond measure. Antiques can be found almost everywhere and if a person wishes, then they can use various methods in order to find them. Everything from rummaging in yard sales to spending hours on Ebay trying to outbid a person can help a person locate the perfect antique collectible to complete their menagerie. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” That is so true when it comes to the antique business. Many people go to flea markets and garage sales just to peruse the items. They find something pretty or handy and purchase it for a few dollars only to find out later that it is an antique worth money…big money. Of course the opposite of this is true too. Antiques can be quite confusing if you do not know what to look for and what is actually worth money.

I realized that I do not like to throw anything out, when unpacking in my new apartment. Old newspapers, magazines and postcards are all included. I decided that instead of decorating my walls with prints, I would make my own classic movie poster. It’s an excellent way to clean out the clutter in your house, as well as a way to show your creativity.
Anything Goes When Making a Classic Movie Poster
There are lots of different ways one could make a classic movie poster. A local artist at Chicago’s Halsted Market Days was framing record album covers using soundtracks of films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s or An American in Paris. Because it’s very inexpensive and easy to do, this is a great way to make a classic movie poster. Go to the local used record shop where you can buy records for less than $5. For less than $30, you can buy an inexpensive, but nice-looking frame at a drugstore.
Making a collage is another way of making a classic movie poster that involves actual work. A collage is a great way to get rid of a lot of old magazines and newspapers. Because most of the material you already have at home, this is again, a very inexpensive project. You’ll only have to buy a poster board and a frame. Along with magazines and newspapers clippings, you could also use covers from VHS tapes, DVD’s or CD’s.
Use Your Imagination, but Remember People Have to Look at it
The only “danger” in making a classic movie poster on your own is that it might end up looking like a kindergartner’s art project from school. There are tips for making your poster presentable and tasteful, even though beauty is subjective and in the end, you have to put together what you like.
Having a theme is a great start. This theme could be a color scheme – using only black & white photographs will give the poster an old Hollywood glamour feel. You can also concentrate on one star, or even better have some sort of general theme in mind. My poster featured film stars of the 1940’s and 1950’s.
Having shots of famous pairs is another good idea – Bogie and Bacall, Spencer and Hepburn, Fred and Ginger. You can also have a classic movie poster featuring famous screen clowns like Charlie Chaplin, Abbot and Costello, or Laurel and Hardy.
The most important thing to remember when making this poster is that it reflects your taste and what you believe to be classic film. As long as you put your creativity into it, any movie poster will look like a classic and don’t be worried if your poster reflects Shaft more than it does Casablanca.
Making your own classic movie poster is an excellent way to clean out the clutter in your house, as well as a way to show your creativity…View more articles at www.posters.jsgenterprises.com.
Sports collecting is a hobby that can fill your time with interest and offer a diversion to your everyday life. A sports collecting hobby is a relaxing and rewarding pastime. Sports collecting can vary immensely depending on the collector. You may choose memorabilia about a particular sports game or favorite sports team, or anything to do with sports. Sports collectors have to be able to improvise ways of storing their items, especially since some sports items occupy quite an amount of space.
Sports collections, whether about a sport, a sports team, or different kinds of memorabilia, can take different forms. Scrapbooking is great for collectors. One way of keeping flat or printed types of collection items such as photographs or news clippings, is to paste them in a scrapbook. You can keep ticket stubs and photographs in your scrapbook. Other items, however, won’t fit into a scrapbook, such as a game ball, team jersey, or a team’s annual yearbook. Naturally you would have to store these items differently. Stands make great storage for special balls, as do hanging jerseys on a wall hanger.
You can collect all types of souvenirs on most popular sports. Small metal pins with insignias on them are sold by many professional teams. Pin collecting is a widely practiced hobby, and sports teams are one of the hottest types of collectible pins, as are those commemorating the Olympics. Antique sports equipment are sought after items for sports collecting. Vintage baseball gloves are an example of this type of collectible.
Baseball cards have long been a source of recreation. Sports collecting enthusiasts have collected baseball cards, football cards, and basketball cards for many years, although baseball cards were the first. Today this has become a very rewarding hobby, as there are sporting cards worth a lot of money.
People who play a particular sport themselves usually want to collect items that symbolize this sport in their own homes and offices. Collecting items decorated with fish, horses, or golfers for example symbolize their favorite sport. For instance, if you enjoy hunting with dogs, you can decorate your home in a hunting dog theme.
The same can be done around the theme of golf, horseback riding, whether western or eastern, bass fishing, sailboats, and other popular recreation sports. Collecting is a hobby that offers many options.
Sports collecting is one of those profitable hobbies that anyone can develop simply and easily, as well as reap financial rewards if they so desire.
When you start into a table top miniature war game, your army is a big investment in time, money, and effort. To help out, here’s a few tips for new Warhammer 40k players to help you get started on the right foot.
Learn The Rules.
Get the main book, and your codex of choice. Take time to read both of them thoroughly before you start building an army. When you pretty well know how it’s supposed to all work, it makes it much easier to put together a decent starting force.
Get Models You Like.
It sounds obvious, but as you’re designing your army list, start with models you like. After all, if you buy models you don’t really like, you won’t be as motivated to get them built and painted, and you probably won’t enjoy fielding them as much. Since the vast majority of units in 40K can be made useful, just pick out a few favorites you just gotta have, and go on from there.Go for something that will deal with all the main types of enemy.
That would be Psykers (like Chaos Marine Sorcerers), heavy infantry (like Space Marine Terminators), horde infantry (like ork boyz), light tanks (like Eldar Vypers), and heavy tanks (like Necron Monoliths). It doesn’t matter if you deal with them at range or up close, just be able to kill it. When you’ve got at least one thing to do that, then find 1 or 2 more that can pull it off in a pinch, preferably one of your other existing units. You want to avoid your army being crippled just because one squad got plastered.Make Sure To Cover All The Mission Objectives.
At this point you can kill most enemies, and that covers 2 out of the 6 basic missions. Now you need to make sure you have a few units that can take and hold objectives. The other 4 basic missions will be covered then also.
Try Proxy first, then buy later.
With list in hand, try to proxy it with stuff you have handy before shelling out the dough. Try playing a couple games and make sure you like it. Tweak it a few times. After you feel like you’ve got a decent start, you can make the plunge and start collecting that army. And you never know, maybe I’ll see you on the battlefield!
When sewing, it’s a necessity to have some scissors. In fact, even if you aren’t doing any sewing, every household needs some scissors! Everyone needs at least one pair of scissors, because they are such a useful tool.
Scissors vs. Shears
To begin with, though people often use the names interchangeably, scissors and shears aren’t really the same thing and are meant to perform different tasks. Shears are used for the heavier cutting jobs, whereas scissors are best used for lighter cutting jobs such as trimming or clipping threads.
Shears Are Made Strong For Heavy Use.
Shears generally measure 6 inches or more in length. The shears are held by putting your thumb through the smaller ring handle, and inserting two or three fingers through the larger ring handle. Holding the shears by placing your fingers through these rings gives better leverage to perform the heavier tasks for which shears excel
Scissors Are Smaller.
Scissors are generally 6 inches in length and on down to 3 inches or even less. Scissors are not only smaller than shears, they also differ because the handle rings are of equal size.
Steel Makes Quality Scissors and Shears.
Most scissors are made of steel. Two main types of steel are used to manufacture scissors. The first type of steel, carbon steel, is used to make scissors with the blade and the handle formed in one continuous piece. This is the best kind of steel because it is very strong and stay sharp. To keep them from rusting, carbon steel scissors and shears are usually plated with chromium or nickel.
Stainless steel is the other kind of steel used to make scissors and shears. The stainless steel blades are usually fitted with plastic handles. Stainless steel scissors don’t retain a sharp edge as long, and aren’t as sturdy. Stainless steel scissors are also harder to re-sharpen. They are, however, generally much cheaper.
Kinds of Shears And Scissors.
There are many types of shears and scissors available. Here’s a small sampling:
There are also shears made for left-handed people, household scissors (all-purpose, poultry shears, etc.), electric scissors, scrapbooking scissors, paper scissors for children and more.
No matter what the cutting job is, there’s probably some kind of shears jor scissors ust right for the task.
Taking Care of Scissors and Shears.
The first and foremost rule of scissors: Scissors should ONLY be used to cut the materials for which they were designed.
Absolutely do NOT use shears for anything other than their intended use. Shears meant for cutting material shouldn’t be used for cutting anything else. If you use shears or scissors for something other than the materials they were intended to cut, that will dull the blades.
Keep shears and scissors dry and dust free, and occasionally oil them at the hinge screw. To help protect the points, keep them in a safe place like a sewing box, or in the case of higher quality scissors, the box they came in. Also, scissors should be stored in a closed position. Laying down a pair of shears or scissors in the open position is the most common cause of dull blades.
High quality shears and scissors can be re-conditioned by the manufacturers or other companies providing that service. This will make your scissors and shears as sharp as new.
Shears And Scissors Summed Up.
For household use, cheaper scissors work fine. It’s a simple matter to replace cheap scissors or shears if they are broken or become dull. For cutting fabric and other sewing tasks, a good set of shears is a wise investment.
The reward of keeping your shears and scissors in good shape is a lifetime of easy cutting. That will make your sewing a shear pleasure.
WARMACHINE (yes, it’s supposed to be in all caps) is a table top miniatures war game made by Privateer Press. This is primarly a skirmish-level game. There are usually anywhere from half a dozen to about 40 models in a game, though you may have more if you care to. At the center of the game is the Warcaster, a powerful leader who can empower and manipulate the hulking Warjack steam-punk mecha. The core battlegroup gets help from a wide array of troops from fire bomb chucking zealots to disciplined riflemen or even undead pirates.
The Rules
Game rules are well-written to be very clear and concise. Most of the rules you need are in the main rulebook, called Prime: Remix. Stat cards come with each model that give a rundown on all of their special rules and how they work. That makes it easy to keep tabs on all your (and your opponent’s) cool tricks mid-battle. Privateer Press has also avoided doing one edition after another. Not being forced to buy and re-buy a half-dozen rulebooks every few years makes it an easy game on the wallet. And since the new books are released annually with a little something for every faction, you’ll also never be left in the cold for years waiting and hoping for an army update.
Gameplay itself is very fast-paced and in-your-face, and definitely favors the aggressor. Due to this, the game much more interesting as you don’t wind up with two sides facing off too scared to make a move all game. The sequential unit activation setup of the game also allows you to execute a myriad display of nasty combos to bring ULTIMATE PAIN to your unfortunate foes. It’s okay, because they can do the same to you, keeping each battle fresh and exciting. Victory can be, and often is, snatched from the jaws of defeat should the apparent victor leave an opening for the beleaguered underdog.
The game focus is also a lot less on list-building and more on mid-battle tactics. Since each model’s abilities are set in stone, that leaves list construction to be simply putting the building blocks together. It’s not simplistic however, since you need to account for each unit’s special abilities and how they’ll work with the rest of the army on the field. With nothing more than a change of the single warcaster model you have leading the army, you can change its entire dynamis, making it a simple matter to liven up your game with something new.
Hobby-wise you don’t see as much model conversion as in a lot of other games, mostly because anything you might need a model for either already has one, or will have one released within the year. Painting is big, with a lot of pro tips in the various source books. As with any table top miniatures war game, terrain building is part of the hobby.
WARMACHINE In A Nutshell
WARMACHINE is a fast-paced, in-your-face style game with a quirky steam punk / magical setting where you can pull off insanely broken moves of ULTIMATE PAIN on your opponent. Watch out though, cause he can do the same to you when you least expect it, keeping the game fresh and fun to the climactic end.
